How To “Sell” Without Selling

Why do you search the internet? I would hazard a guess that you are searching for information on a particular topic of interest to you. In fact, that is why most people search the internet; for information on something they’re already interested in.

As an internet marketer, your job is not so much to “sell” as to make the information that your niche audience is seeking available to them. If you provide quality content about your niche,  you’ll get conversions without having to “sell.”

What Is Quality Content?

Quality content is content that relates to your niche and provides value. It is content that has some worth in and of itself.

For example,  if your niche is dog grooming, you could review the various techniques for grooming a dog and provide links to some useful tools that a dog groomer might need.

In the above example, your links to dog grooming tools could be your own affiliate links. Notice how you’re not convincing your audience to buy the tools. You are providing them with information about dog grooming techniques, which anyone who is getting into dog grooming would surely find useful, and you’re providing them with the means to get the tools they need.

Research Is The Key To Quality Content

In order to provide information that your niche audience is going to find valuable, you’re going to have to know something about your niche. You don’t actually need to be an expert, but you do need to present yourself as one.

The way you do this is to research your niche.  Obviously, if your niche is something you already have some knowledge of, then it will be easier for your write great content about it.  Even if you already know a lot about your niche, it is still a good idea to research it further. This will enable you to produce content rich sites for your audience to find and consume.

In the movie  “Field of Dreams,” a disembodied voice tells Kevin Costner’s character “if you build it, he will come.” In the land of internet marketing, that translates to “if you provide the content, they will come.”

Happy marketing!
