Last weekend I was thinking about putting up some review sites to beef up my affiliate campaigns and, in doing my research on how to structure my sites correctly,  I ran across this article by someone named Penny Marshall.

Basically, the article quotes some other guy’s article about how Google recently dropped the quality scores  for Adwords on affiliate review sites across the board and offers some advice on how to counter the Google slap.

That’s all fine and well, expect for the fact that Mr. Marshall is selling his own product,  The Definitive Guide To Google Adwords, and pretty much outright says that he has the answer to this problem in his product. Which is ok, except for the fact that he is doing what all affiliates out there are trying to do: make a sale.

Mr. Marshall is no doubt a successful marketer but he should not denigrate the efforts of other marketers as “me too” and “not serious.” Everyone has to start somewhere: we’re not born out of the womb with the innate ability to sell stuff online.

There is no one method to internet marketing success and to suggest that there is and that only YOU have it is, at the end of the day, hype. That is what Mr. Marshall is doing when he denigrates other marketers’ efforts.

As to the substance of the facts in his article and his reference article, I don’t use Adwords myself, so I can’t say whether there has been a Google slap or not, nor assign any cause to it if one has occurred.

My advice to any budding marketer is that you try out the different ways of getting traffic and promoting your stuff and go with the one that gives you the best results and that is true to the kind of person you are. That is the beauty of working for yourself: you get to decide how you will do business and you can stay true to yourself.
