Running a home business can be profitable and rewarding. It can also be frustrating and downright depressing, especially in the beginning stages. Dealing with the ups and downs of working for yourself is challenging. In this post, I am going to give you some simple tips for staying motivated as you build your business.

When you’re first starting out, give yourself a break if you make mistakes. It’s a learning process and making mistakes is how you learn. When they happen,  roll with them, learn from them, but don’t beat yourself up about them.

Organize your day and set goals for yourself, either daily or weekly to keep yourself on track. Without the structured environment of the office, it is easy to lose track and start a dozen projects at once, never finding the time to finish even one. For example, one of my goals is to write at least one article a day.  By setting this goal for myself,  and following up on it, it allows me to feel that I’ve accomplished something that day toward the success of my business, even if everything else that day went haywire.

Realize that building a business takes time. There is no such thing as getting rich quickly. It takes hard work and time to build your business to the point where you are making a profit.  It may be many months from the time you start your business until you actually see a decent profit.  This delay oftentimes will derail the even most dedicated entrepreneur. Don’t let this happen to you!

Set business hours for yourself and devote that time to working on your business. You can stagger the hours through-out your day, but make sure that you are putting in enough time to accomplish the necessary tasks you’ve set for yourself.

Never underestimate the need for the support of your peers. Working from home, you lack the companionship of your colleagues, and in times when you’re feeling down,  a simple kind word from a colleague is often the best pick-me-up.  Joining one or more of the online community forums centered around working from home or internet marketing will make up for the lack of having colleagues around you.
