So, I’m browsing through the Warrior Forum last night and I come across this post where the guy is complaining about getting his articles rejected for being too short. He says his article was 350 words, which is 100 words over the minimum of 250 words per EZA’s guidelines, but the comment on rejection was that the article needs to be longer. Another Warrior links to this blog entry on EZA’s blog in answer to the original poster as to why he is getting rejected, even though he is within the guidelines.
The gist of all of this is that EZA is tightening its guidelines on what it considers to be relevant and unique content which “adds value” to the “end-user” experience and will also be considering the landing page linked to in the resource box as part of the equation. If the link is a re-direct to an affiliate sales page, then the editorial team will be more likely to reject the shorter articles, even if it is above that 250 word minimum as being too “thin” on content.
I have to say that I find that blog post a little bit hyperbolic as the author paints all affiliate marketers with the same broad brush. I must also say that it is a bit like biting the hand that feeds you since a good chunk of the free content EZA to which EZA owes its existence to, from which it makes massive Adsense revenue, comes from affiliate marketers.
So, in light of this recent development, the question becomes can affiliate marketers still use EZA as a marketing tool? Absolutely. You just have to be smart about it. If you’re doing it right, you shouldn’t have to worry over this “crack down” much anyway.
I have a feeling that most of it is to do with heavily spun PLR articles that some affiliates are using in order to pump articles out quickly. The blog post does mention “Frankenstein article spin-written by some software program” which I agree often come out sounding crappy. If you are using PLR articles and article writing software, then yes, your stuff is going to get rejected because at the end of the day it is not unique and it is “crap.”
If, on the other hand, you write all of your own articles and you don’t use article spinning software, you really don’t have much to worry about. I’ve been submitting articles to EZA all month long without a problem and I link to this blog and to affiliate re-directs, AND all my stuff is in the “make money” niche.
The bottom line is this: be unique, be you, write your own stuff, and you’ll be ok, even if you’re an “evil affiliate marketer out to make a buck.” Keep in mind as well, that EZA is not the only good article directory out there. You should be submitting to others as well, since it is never wise to place all your eggs in one basket.
