Ok, fellow IMers, why do you go to such lengths to conceal the fact that you’re running a for profit business? Why do you wax on and on about “valuable content” as a means to end in and of itself?

Face it, you provide content to get people to your site, where you hope that they will click on your affiliate links and buy what you’re selling.  Last time I checked, there was nothing wrong with this. You are providing content that people are interested in, and along with that some services or products that they would probably be interested in as well.

So why do you get your feathers all ruffled when someone suggests that you’re in this for the money? Why do you feel the need to get all pompous about how YOU are providing VALUABLE content while the next marketer isn’t and is just trying to make a buck?

Come off of it, please! You’re trying to make a buck, too, for all of your waxing on and on about “content that adds value.” For every piece of content that YOU say adds value,  I can find someone who would think it is utter crap and a waste of time. But those guys aren’t your market, are they?

Part of the updated FTC regulations were designed to make people like you reveal that you have something more at stake than just providing “useful content.”  So get used to revealing your true intentions. There is nothing wrong with the desire to make money.

We are all in this to make money.  That’s what internet marketing is about and there is nothing wrong with making money as long as you aren’t scamming or in any other way, hurting anyone else. If your product is legitimate, you should be pleased to tell the world you’re selling it. If your product is not so legitimate, well, I can see your point.

I know competition out there is cutthroat, but there really is no need to denigrate other marketers’ content as substandard and valueless while touting your own as the best.  Doing this just makes you look like a jerk.
