Finding Funding For Your Business
Although this blog is dedicated Internet marketing and other Internet related businesses that do not need much, if any funding to start up, there are other business ideas that people have based on their interests for which more funding might be necessary.
This page will be an evolving repository of links and information about where you can find the funding you need to make your small business dreams a reality.
Small Business Resources
The Small Business Administration The SBA is a government group that offers advice and assistance to those seeking to start up a small business. While the SBA does not offer any type of financial assistance itself, it can put you in contact with organizations that do provide funding and it provides a wealth of information about how to start up a small business.
Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) Small Business Development Centers work with the SBA on the local level to connect people with resources, financial and otherwise, to help them start businesses. The link above will help you locate your nearest SBDC.
Angel Investors
Angel investors are individuals or groups of individuals who provide private funding to entrepreneurs seeking to start up businesses. Angel investors will often offer more than just money and good ones will help mentor you as your business grows. Angel investors will expect some sort of return on their investment in your business, usually in the form of a position on your board, or some type of revenue sharing. How much or how little the Angel gets out of it depends on the deal you negotiate with them.
Angel investors are both easy and difficult to find at the same time. The key to finding them is to do some research and networking. The following are links to help you get started on your search:
National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) This is where you want to go to find the nearest “business incubator” near you. A business incubator can put you in contact with Angel investors in your area.
Go4funding.com: This site connects people seeking funding with investors looking to fund new start ups. From what I can see, there is no charge, at least on the part of those seeking funding. If this is not the case, please email me .
Chamber of Commerce Directory: Use this site to locate your local Chamber of Commerce. Often, the Chamber of Commerce in your area will host events at which you can find Angel investors or people who know where you can find Angel investors.
