Internet Marketers: Why Do You Hide Your Intentions?

Ok, fellow IMers, why do you go to such lengths to conceal the fact that you’re running a for profit business? Why do you wax on and on about “valuable content” as a means to end in and of itself?

Face it, you provide content to get people to your site, where you hope that they will click on your affiliate links and buy what you’re selling.  Last time I checked, there was nothing wrong with this. You are providing content that people are interested in, and along with that some services or products that they would probably be interested in as well.

Dear Email Marketers & List Builders

I’ve joined a number of Internet marketing type mailing lists over the years, usually in exchange for some free information or access to a free program, and in that time I’ve made the following observations:

1: The more emails I receive from you, the less likely I am to pay any attention to them at all. There are some marketers who feel the need to email me offers or even information on a daily basis. These, I insta-delete because I see this is as an abuse of the privilege that I have granted you in sharing my email address with you.

It is a gaming site, specifically, it is about digital rights management and gaming, yet,  as the site grows in popularity, more and more people join simply to market their stuff.

How To “Sell” Without Selling

Why do you search the internet? I would hazard a guess that you are searching for information on a particular topic of interest to you. In fact, that is why most people search the internet; for information on something they’re already interested in.

As an internet marketer, your job is not so much to “sell” as to make the information that your niche audience is seeking available to them. If you provide quality content about your niche,  you’ll get conversions without having to “sell.”
